This was a wedding I waited patiently over a year for! I met Meghan and Alex last summer for their engagement session while they were in town from Seattle. I can’t imagine what a feat it was to plan a wedding across the country, but she embraced the challenge and did it well, because every last detail was stunning. And you guys, I am pretty sure I have found my new favorite venue out of The War Memorial in Grosse Pointe, MI. Wait until you scroll through their highlights here. I’m OBSESSED!

Before we get to the pretty eye candy, I wanted to take a moment and have Meghan tell you a little about her love story with Alex!

Q. How did you two meet?

We met in 2012 at Michigan State University. I was a Resident Assistant in the dorm where Alex lived. I was going into my senior year of college. I was ready to finish up classes, graduate, and start my life. Alex was entering his freshman year and was ready to enjoy everything MSU had to offer. We were in completely different stages of life.

Q. Wast it love at first site?

It was definitely not love at first site. Alex was enjoying his freshman year of college. While he was in his prime college years, I was more mature and ready for the next phase in life. We were in different stages of life. As the school year went on, we began to talk more often & Alex grew to be one of my very best friends. By the end of the school year, we knew there was a special connection and we decided to start dating.

Q. How did he propose?

I was working at Michigan State University as an academic advisor. Alex surprised me at my office at the end of the day. He was interning in Ann Arbor at the time. He told me that he was going to take me out for sushi (our favorite food), but we would have to walk all the way across campus to his car, because "that was the only place he could find parking." I noticed Alex was a little more dressed up than usual. I asked him why he was dressed up & he claimed the heat was out in his office and needed to wear more layers. I didn't think too much of it after that, because there had been other times when I thought I was getting engaged, but wasn't ... let's admit it, every girl has been there. As we approached the Beaumont Tower, Alex started to get nervous, because this was where he was going to ask me to be his wife. As we got to the front of the Beaumont Tower, Alex grabbed my hand, gave a speech that neither of us remembered, got down on one knee, and asked me to be his wife. There is an MSU legend that states, if you kiss in the shadows of the Beaumont Tower, you are destined to marry your sweetheart. There were many kisses shared between us under the Beaumont Tower, so it was fitting for Alex to propose there.

Q. Tell me about your vision for your wedding?

The most important thing for Alex & I was to have a gathering full of our closest family and friends. For me, it was important to get married at a place that had personal meaning. We decided to get married at the Grosse Pointe Academy Chapel because that is where my parents got married 30 years ago. My dad passed when I was younger, so this was our way to honor him & feel his presence. Once we picked out the chapel, we found The War Memorial. Both venues had such a historic and natural beauty. The venues really helped set the tone for the wedding, which was elegant, soft, and timeless.

Q. What is your best advice for a newly engaged bride?

Keep your eye on the big picture! It’s so easy to get caught up in the small details. It’s about the love between you & your fiancé! ... not about spending hours deciding between ivory or white chair covers. ;)

That’s some brilliant advice if I do say so! I think the meaning behind the event can get clouded behind all the decision making, and it’s important to step back and remember the WHY.

OK, you’ve waited long enough. Scroll on, my friend!
