In-Home Newborn Lifestyle Guide

Helpful tips for a relaxing in-home newborn lifestyle session

YOU'RE EXPECTING! CONGRATULATIONS!

As a Mom of two boys, I know first hand what a beautiful season of life this is. I also understand how fast it goes by, and that's why I am here! Newborn Lifestyle sessions are one of my favorite to capture. I love doing these in-home, as this is where families are most comfortable - and the images tend to be more authentic and true to life. Capturing the details of the nursery, the sleepy cuddles, and adoration from big brother and/or sister are just a few of the moments I will document. Homes with lighter, neutral colors, and ample windows for light will help yield images that fit my light and airy style, but I can make any space work! If you do not feel comfortable conducting the session in-home, we can make arrangements for an alternative location.

It's my number one goal that your newborn lifestyle session is relaxing and enjoyable for you and your family! I completely understand that newborns can be unpredictable, so we allow them to run the show and we go at their pace. If they need to be fed, need a diaper change, or simply need to be snuggled because of fussiness, we can take a break and resume when baby is ready.

Here are a few tips to help our session run as smoothly as possible!

Helpful tips for a relaxing in-home newborn lifestyle session

1. Tidy up!
I will be shooting in areas of the house with a lot of windows and natural light. Typically this includes the nursery, master bedroom, and general living area. I would suggest making the bed, and clearing up clutter and distracting elements so your family is the primary focus! Upon my arrival, I will have you show me around so I can see how the light is falling, and determine which rooms will suit us best.

2. Wardrobe
Lighter, neutral tones photograph well such as white, cream, tan, gray, link pinks, and other pale colors. I suggest avoiding heavy patterns, bold colors, and graphics. Choose something you feel comfortable in, and try to coordinate with your family instead of match your family! Set aside a plain white onesie for baby, and small headbands for girls if you have them. I will bring several of my own cheesecloth swaddle wraps. I like to keep the images raw and authentic, so I don't photograph with props, but if you had a special keepsake you wanted to photograph with baby, please let me know and I'd be happy to work that in for you. 3. Prepare Baby
If possible, try to keep baby awake, and feed just prior to my arrival. This will ensure baby is extra sleepy with a full tummy during our session! I may suggest raising your heat a few degrees to help keep baby warm and comfortable. As I mentioned previously, it's OK if we need to break and tend to baby's needs. In fact, I expect this! Newborn sessions can last anywhere between 1 to 3 hours. We will go at their pace!

4. Relax and have fun!
I want this session to be relaxing and fun for the entire family! With my lifestyle approach, I aim to capture the raw, authentic moments between your family and the new baby. Maybe this means giving baby a bath, reading a book with brother and sister, or making a pot of coffee in the kitchen with baby in tow! If you have your own idea or activity you'd like to include, please let me know! I'd love to customize this experience to fit your unique family dynamic!

If you are expecting and would like a spot on my calendar, please send me a note here so we can connect and discuss your session!
